Methodology, software & labs

How you'll learn

Training is 100% online on the SEIUM campus, with downloadable material, recorded classes and an assigned technical tutor. There are no fixed timetables: you progress at your own pace within each intake, so it fits around your job.

Each module combines theory, guided reading of the original standard and applied exercises. The working software is Simcenter Flomaster, Simcenter Amesim, ANSYS Fluent, HTRI Xchanger Suite and MATLAB, in free, academic or evaluation versions. Practical work is based on real procedures for sizing compact heat exchangers, simulating the air conditioning system and thermal analysis of avionics bays. Assessment is continuous by module, plus the final project.

Standards covered: TEMA Standards, ASME BPVC Section VIII, SAE AIR1168, SAE ARP85, RTCA DO-160G, CS-25.

Assigned technical tutor:every module ends with a deliverable that your tutor marks individually.
Standards-based learning:guided reading of TEMA Standards, ASME BPVC Section VIII and SAE AIR1168 applied to real cases, not as a theoretical annex.
Industry software:Simcenter Flomaster, Simcenter Amesim, ANSYS Fluent, HTRI Xchanger Suite and MATLAB, in free, academic or evaluation versions.
Final project:A thermal management project covering loads, architecture, heat exchanger sizing, simulation and test planning, reviewed by your tutor.
Flexible format:100% online, no fixed timetables, compatible with full-time work.
Capstone project

Build it end to end

Your final project follows the real engineering workflow, step by step, reviewed by your tutor.

Thermal load definition
Establish the thermal balance and heat sinks of the aircraft across its mission profile.
System architecture
Define the ECS and integrated thermal management architecture.
Heat exchanger sizing
Size the compact heat exchangers using NTU methods and Colburn j and f factors.
Simulation and test plan
Simulate the system in Flomaster and plan its correlation tests.
Final project
A complete thermal management project with mass and sensitivity analysis, reviewed by your tutor.
