How you'll learn
100% online training on the SEIUM campus, with downloadable material, recorded classes and an assigned technical tutor. No fixed timetables: students progress at their own pace within the intake, which makes it possible to combine the programme with work.
Each module combines theory, guided reading of the original standard and applied exercises. The working software is GT-SUITE (GT-POWER), Ricardo WAVE, AVL BOOST, OpenFOAM, Ansys Fluent, in free, academic or evaluation versions. Tests are studied using real procedures for port characterisation on a steady-flow bench, measurement of pulsating pressure in the exhaust manifold on an engine test bench, and static and running noise testing. Assessment is continuous across modules, plus the final integrating project.
Build it end to end
Your final project follows the real engineering workflow, step by step, reviewed by your tutor.
Apply the fundamentals of gas dynamics to intake and exhaust ducts.
Analyse the blowdown process and its effect on cylinder filling.
Design exhaust systems for two-stroke and four-stroke engines.
Build and validate complete 1D engine models.
Simulate internal flow in ports and chambers using CFD.
