Methodology, software & labs

How you'll learn

A 100% online programme on the SEIUM campus, with downloadable material, recorded classes and an assigned technical tutor. There are no fixed timetables: you progress at your own pace within each intake, so you can combine it with your job.

Each module combines theory, guided reading of the original standard and applied exercises. The working software is KISSsoft, Romax, MASTA, ANSYS Mechanical and MATLAB, in free, academic or evaluation versions. Testing is studied through real procedures for transmission test benches, loss-of-oil run tests and oil and particle analysis. Assessment is continuous by module plus the final capstone project.

Standards covered: ISO 6336, AGMA 2001-D04, CS-29, AGMA 911, ISO 281, EN 9100 and MIL-PRF-23699.

Assigned technical tutor:every module ends with a deliverable that your tutor marks individually.
Standards-based learning:guided reading of ISO 6336, AGMA 2001-D04 and CS-29 applied to real cases, not as a theoretical annex.
Industry software:KISSsoft, Romax, MASTA, ANSYS Mechanical and MATLAB, in free, academic or evaluation versions.
Final project:the preliminary design of a rotorcraft gearbox, from specification to test and maintenance planning, reviewed by your tutor.
Flexible format:100% online, no fixed timetables, compatible with full-time work.
Capstone project

Build it end to end

Your final project follows the real engineering workflow, step by step, reviewed by your tutor.

Gearbox specification
Define the power, reduction ratios, architecture and requirements of the gearbox.
Gear stage calculation
Calculate a gear stage for bending and contact stress and specify its manufacture.
Shafts, bearings and lubrication
Size the shafts and bearings and design the lubrication circuit.
Dynamics and test plan
Analyse the gearbox dynamics and draw up its certification test plan.
Final project
Preliminary design of a rotorcraft gearbox, documented and reviewed by your tutor.
