R100 Course: Battery Safety in Electric Vehicles
Online course of 300 hours in UN R100: battery safety in electric vehicles. 6 modules covering traction batteries and their risks, the structure of UN Regulation No. 100, REESS testing, post-crash and in-service safety, and type approval and conformity of production, with an assigned technical tutor.
Take the controls.
Run a real engineering trade-off from this field. Move the sliders, watch the model react in real time and beat the challenge.
What you will be able to do
Understand the risks of lithium-ion traction batteries.
Interpret the structure and requirements of UN Regulation No. 100.
Plan the tests of the rechargeable electrical energy storage system.
Assess electrical safety after a crash and in service.
Relate R100 to GTR No. 20 and the EU Batteries Regulation.
Manage type approval and conformity of production.
Draw up an R100 type-approval plan for an electric vehicle.

How you'll learn
100% online study on the SEIUM campus, with downloadable material, recorded classes and an assigned technical tutor. There are no fixed timetables: you progress at your own pace within each intake, so the programme fits around your job.
Each module combines theory, guided reading of the original regulations and applied exercises. The working software is MATLAB and Simulink, ANSYS Fluent, COMSOL Multiphysics and Vector CANoe, in free, academic or evaluation versions. Practical work is based on real procedures: planning the tests of a rechargeable energy storage system, assessing electrical safety after impact and analysing thermal propagation risks. Assessment is continuous, module by module, plus the final project.
Standards covered: UN Regulation No. 100; UN Regulation No. 94; UN Regulation No. 95; GTR No. 20; Regulation (EU) 2023/1542; ISO 6469-1; UN Manual of Tests and Criteria, section 38.3; IEC 62660-2.
Build it end to end
Your final project follows the real engineering workflow, step by step, reviewed by your tutor.
