Course in Nuclear Environmental Impact Assessment
Online course of 300 h in nuclear environmental impact assessment. 6 modules covering Directive 2011/92/EU as amended by Directive 2014/52/EU (environmental impact assessment), Law 21/2013 on environmental assessment and QGIS. Assigned tutor and open enrolment.
Take the controls.
Run a real engineering trade-off from this field. Move the sliders, watch the model react in real time and beat the challenge.
What you will be able to do
Describe the regulatory framework for the environmental assessment of nuclear facilities.
Characterise the physical, biotic and socio-economic environment of a site.
Assess radiological impacts on the public and biota.
Identify and assess non-radiological impacts.
Integrate the life cycle, waste and decommissioning into the assessment.
Propose preventive, corrective and monitoring measures.
Write an environmental impact study for a nuclear facility.

How you'll learn
100% online training on the SEIUM campus, with downloadable material, recorded classes and an assigned technical tutor. No fixed timetable: students progress at their own pace within the intake, which makes it possible to combine the course with work.
Each module combines theory, guided reading of the original standard and applied exercises. The working software is QGIS, ArcGIS Pro, ERICA Tool, RESRAD-OFFSITE, in free, academic or evaluation versions. Assignments are based on real procedures for characterising a site's environment, assessing doses to biota, and preparing an environmental impact study. Assessment is continuous, module by module, plus the final integrative project.
Build it end to end
Your final project follows the real engineering workflow, step by step, reviewed by your tutor.

Frequently asked questions
The programme totals 300 hours, spread over 3 to 5 months. That is an average of 10 to 15 hours per week, compatible with a full-time job.
You will work with QGIS, ArcGIS Pro, ERICA Tool and RESRAD-OFFSITE. Free, academic or evaluation versions are used, and the tutor indicates the free alternative where one exists.
A SEIUM diploma on passing the continuous assessment and the final integrative project. It is in-house training, not an official qualification from the Ministry.
Yes. Modules passed in a course or postgraduate diploma in the same area can be recognised in the higher programme. Check the recognition policy when you enrol.
