SU Carburettors Course: Restoration and Tuning
Online 300-hour course on SU carburettors: restoration and tuning. 6 modules covering EN 228 (unleaded petrol), EN 15376 (ethanol as a petrol component) and advanced Excel. Dedicated tutor and open enrolment.
Take the controls.
Run a real engineering trade-off from this programme. Move the sliders, watch the model react in real time and beat the challenge.
What you will be able to do
Explain the principle of the constant-depression carburettor.
Disassemble and rebuild bodies, pistons and piston dampers.
Select needles and jets according to the profile and the engine.
Synchronise several carburettors in flow and opening.
Carry out tuning and verify it with a gas analyser.
Adapt gaskets and materials to ethanol-blended fuel.
Plan the periodic maintenance of the assembly.

How you'll learn
100 % online training on the SEIUM Institute campus, with downloadable material, recorded classes and a dedicated technical tutor. No fixed timetables: students progress at their own pace within the intake, making it possible to combine the course with work.
Each module combines theory, guided reading of the original standard and applied exercises. The working software is Advanced Excel, Gas analyser with logging software, Innovate LogWorks, SU needle profile charts (needle profile sheets), in free, academic or evaluation versions. Tests are studied using real carburettor synchronisation procedures with an air flow meter, reconstruction of constant-depression carburettors, and mixture adjustment with a gas analyser. Assessment is continuous, module by module, plus the final integrating project.
Build it end to end
Your final project follows the real engineering workflow, step by step, reviewed by your tutor.

Disassemble and rebuild bodies, pistons and piston dampers.
Select needles and jets according to the profile and the engine.
Synchronise several carburettors in flow and opening.
Carry out tuning and verify it with a gas analyser.

Frequently asked questions
The programme comprises 300 total hours spread over 3 to 5 months. That is between 10 and 15 hours per week on average, compatible with full-time work.
You will work with Advanced Excel, Gas analyser with logging software, Innovate LogWorks, SU needle profile charts (needle profile sheets). Free, academic or evaluation versions are used, and the tutor indicates the free alternative where one exists.
A SEIUM Institute diploma upon passing continuous assessment and the integrating project. It is in-house training, not an official qualification from the Ministry.
Yes. Modules passed in a course or postgraduate diploma in the same area are recognised towards the higher-level programme. Check the recognition policy when you enrol.
