LCL Converters Course for Renewable Integration
Online 300 h course in LCL converters for renewable integration. 6 modules covering IEEE 519-2022 (harmonic control in electrical systems), IEEE 1547-2018 (interconnection of distributed resources) and MATLAB/Simulink. Assigned tutor and open enrolment.
Take the controls.
Run a real engineering trade-off from this programme. Move the sliders, watch the model react in real time and beat the challenge.
What you will be able to do
Understand the origin of switching harmonics in grid-connected inverters.
Size the components of an LCL filter using ripple, loss and cost criteria.
Analyse filter resonance and select damping techniques.
Design current control loops that are robust against grid impedance.
Assess inverter stability using impedance models.
Validate the design through simulation and standardised testing.
Develop the complete design of a converter with an LCL filter.

How you'll learn
100 % online training on the SEIUM campus, with downloadable material, recorded classes and assigned technical tutor. There are no fixed timetables: students progress at their own pace within the intake, which makes it compatible with work.
Each module combines theory, guided reading of the original standard and applied exercises. The working software is MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, PSIM, LTspice, Typhoon HIL, in free, academic or evaluation versions. Testing work is based on real procedures for designing and simulating LCL filters, impedance-based stability analysis and measurement of harmonics injected during testing. Assessment is continuous per module plus the final integrating project.
Build it end to end
Your final project follows the real engineering workflow, step by step, reviewed by your tutor.

Frequently asked questions
The programme totals 300 hours spread over 3 to 5 months. That is between 10 and 15 hours a week on average, compatible with full-time work.
The course uses MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, PSIM, LTspice, Typhoon HIL. Free, academic or evaluation versions are used, and the tutor indicates the free alternative where one exists.
An SEIUM Institute own-award diploma upon passing continuous assessment and the integrating project. It is in-house training, not an official Ministry qualification.
Yes. Modules passed in a course or postgraduate diploma in the same area can be credited towards the advanced programme. Check the recognition policy when you enrol.
