Advanced Materials in Off-Road Machinery Course
300-hour online course in advanced materials in off-road machinery. 6 modules covering EN 10025-6 (quenched and tempered high-yield-strength steels), EN 10149-2 (thermomechanically rolled steels for cold forming) and Ansys Granta Selector. Assigned tutor and open enrolment.
Take the controls.
Run a real engineering trade-off from this field. Move the sliders, watch the model react in real time and beat the challenge.
What you will be able to do
Identify the mechanical and environmental requirements of off-road materials.
Select high-strength and wear-resistant steels according to the application.
Compare light alloys and cast irons in structural components.
Evaluate polymers, elastomers and composites in the machine.
Specify coatings and corrosion protection.
Diagnose failures due to fatigue, wear and brittle fracture.
Justify the material selection for a component in a final project.

How you'll learn
100 % online training on the SEIUM Institute campus, with downloadable material, recorded classes and an assigned technical tutor. No fixed timetables: students progress at their own pace within the intake, which makes it possible to combine with work.
Each module combines theory, guided reading of the original standard and applied exercises. The working software is Ansys Granta Selector, Ansys Mechanical, SolidWorks, advanced Excel, JMatPro, in free, academic or evaluation versions. Tests are studied using real tensile and impact (resilience) test procedures, fractographic analysis of failed parts and salt spray testing. Assessment is continuous per module, plus the final integrating project.
Build it end to end
Your final project follows the real engineering workflow, step by step, reviewed by your tutor.
Identify the mechanical and environmental requirements of off-road materials.
Select high-strength and wear-resistant steels according to the application.
Compare light alloys and cast irons in structural components.
Evaluate polymers, elastomers and composites in the machine.
Specify coatings and corrosion protection.
