Innovation & R&D projects with real-world impact
Engineering as a tool for global change.
SEIUM projects — whether Master’s Final Projects, spin-offs, or industry collaborations — stand out for their applied, interdisciplinary, and sustainable approach. Each year, more than 400 students take part in applied research projects, many of them in direct collaboration with companies or European consortia (Horizon Europe, CDTI, SAE, UNECE).
Developed by students from the Master’s in Helicopter and Tiltrotor Engineering (SAS-SEIUM) in collaboration with Airbus Helicopters.
It implements an AI-based adaptive control system that improves dynamic stability in critical flight conditions.
🏆 EASA Innovation 2024 Award.
A spin-off incubated at the SEIUM Venture Lab (SEN-SEIUM).
It develops energy optimisation algorithms for hybrid grids (hydrogen, solar, and wind).
It received EIC Accelerator funding in 2025 and is already collaborating with Siemens Energy.
A joint project between SAS-SEIUM and DAIS-SEIUM.
An autonomous drone for inspecting and repairing satellites in low Earth orbit.
Developed in collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA).
🏆 ESA Award for Best University Aerospace Project 2024.
An interdisciplinary project from the SMI (MotorSport Institute).
An energy management system and advanced telemetry for electric racing vehicles.
It uses digital twins and HIL/SIL integration within SEIUM simulators.
Finalist in Formula Student Germany 2024.
Development of a modular bridge using recyclable composite materials through 3D printing.
Led by the RSC (Rail & Smart Cities Institute) with CDTI funding.
🏆 National Sustainable Engineering Award 2025.
An interdisciplinary project by SDS-SEIUM and the Department of Ethics and International Humanitarian Law.
It designs an ethical and technical framework for defence AI under IHL and GDPR standards.
Adopted by several European institutions in 2025.
Social, environmental, and ethical impact
SEIUM success stories are also reflected in the ethical and sustainable impact of its projects. More than 60% of the initiatives incubated at the university integrate ESG (Environmental, Social & Governance) criteria, and 35% align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
- BlueCarbon Dynamics (SNO-SEIUM): offshore structures with passive CO₂ capture.
- E-Bridge Mobility (RSC-SEIUM): modular infrastructure for electric public transport.
- AI-SAFE (DAIS-SEIUM): verifiable AI systems for safety-critical simulations in defence and aviation.
- Women in Mobility Tech Program: an initiative that promotes women’s leadership in advanced engineering.
At SEIUM, success is measured not only by profitability or technology, but by the ability to create positive, sustainable impact.
,
In addition, SEIUM is part of international excellence networks such as:
- EAIE (European Association for International Education)
- IAU (International Association of Universities)
- EASA & SAE Academic Partnerships
- Global Mobility Alliance for Sustainable Engineering (GMASE)
SEIUM awards are not just honours; they recognise an educational philosophy that brings together technology, responsibility, and humanity.
