Student life

Student life at SEIUM is designed as a second curriculum: practical, safe, and with real impact. Our clubs function as engineering teams + laboratories + communities, connected to industry and with a robust framework of safety, ethics, and sustainability. Here you learn by doing: you prototype, compete, publish, document, and present results just as you would in a professional program.

SEIUM model for clubs and teams

What is a club?
A student-led organization with academic and industry mentorship, access to labs and maker spaces, and an annual plan (technical roadmap, budget, KPIs, safety). Each club has:

Results that the market counts

Sustainability (LCA/footprint, recycling, responsible purchasing).

SEIUM Maker Guild: design, manufacturing, and testing of prototypes; DFM/DfA, 3D printing, CNC, electronics, firmware.

Electronics & Embedded Systems: high-speed PCB, EMC pre-compliance, RTOS/Linux, TSN, CAN/CAN-FD.

Robotics & Automation: cobots, AMR/SLAM, 3D vision, grippers; cell with PLC/DCS/SCADA.

Data, AI & Simulation: MLOps, time series, CFD/FEA/HPC, digital twins of tracks, ports, or wind tunnels.

Energy & Batteries: packs, BMS, thermal, V2G/V2X; HV safety, supervised handling and abuse tests.

  • Formula Student / Base Formulas (EV/combustion): chassis, aero/CFD, suspension, i2/Atlas telemetry, 7-post rig (supervised).
  • TCR/Touring & GT Virtual Lab: race engineering in simulators, strategy & tyres, fuel & energy management.
  • Rally-Raid & Off-Road: suspension setup, desert sealing, bivouac logistics, safe pit-ops.
  • Karting Performance Pipeline: sim-to-track correlation, coaching with data overlays, ergonomics.
  • UAS & eVTOL: PX4/ArduPilot autopilots, GNC, field testing with SORA and controlled zones.
  • Aero & CFD: wind tunnel campaigns (academic scales), correlation with RANS/LES; instrumentation.
  • C-UAS & Operational Safety (non-operational): regulatory assessment, geofencing, ethics and privacy.
  • SatCom & Telemetry: links, antennas, edge analytics, and university payloads.

  • SEIUM Sailing & Foiling: sail design, VPP, meteorological routing, onboard instrumentation.
  • Naval Maker: marine composite laminating, coatings, IP67/69K, onboard energy.
  • Rescue & Nautical Safety: practices with SMC (simulated), ergonomics, procedures, and radio.
  • SEIUM SimRacing Team: professional rigs (Direct Drive), telemetry, strategy & setup, iRacing/ACC/rF2 leagues.
  • Race Control & Broadcast Lab: overlays, cameras, sporting regulations, production.
  • Human Performance: cognitive drills, fatigue, ergonomics, and biofeedback (non-invasive Eye-tracking/EMG).
  • All clubs work with standards and procedures: checklists, risk assessments, pre-run briefs, and post-run reviews.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. The clubs are inter-school; training defines the role (not the course).

Yes, with reservations, buddy system, and active permits (L2/L3 depending on activity).

Risk plan, insurance, sustainable logistics, approved budgets, and codes of conduct.

They should not: there are protected windows and intensive pre-competition blocks.

The clubs operate under SEIUM's IP policy: clarity regarding the partner's background, the club's foreground, academic licenses, and open data where applicable.
