Objective. At SEIUM, we want access to advanced engineering not to depend on ability to pay. Our scholarship and financial aid system combines merit, financial need, diversity, and joint investment with partners, so that the right talent reaches the right laboratories, with safety, ethics, and sustainability as the framework.

Scholarship portfolio (four pillars)
For whom. Outstanding academic records; achievements in Olympiads/competitions; publications; patents; awards; and evidence-based projects (CFD/FEA, HIL/SIL, wind tunnel, 7-post rig, etc.).
What we assess (weighting guide):
Academic and technical excellence (35%)
Evidence-based portfolio/projects with standards (25%)
Leadership and contribution to the technical community (20%)
Statement of Purpose (SOP) and fit with SEIUM (10%)
References (quality, not quantity) (10%)
Indicative coverage. 10–40% of tuition (depending on relative excellence and available funds).
Typical documentation:
Academic transcript and ranking (if available).
Technical portfolio (reports, repositories, test videos; include applied standards and results).
1–2 reference letters (academic or industry).
SOP (motivation, objectives, expected impact).
For whom. Students with limited financial capacity, especially those from lower-income regions or vulnerable contexts.
What we assess:
Verified financial situation (household income, dependants, unsuccessful local scholarship applications).
A realistic co-funding plan (savings, compatible work, partial family support).
Minimum merit required for admission to the programme.
Indicative coverage. Adjusted to the gap between cost and verified ability to pay; can be combined with merit funding up to the annually defined limit.
Typical documentation:
Income/tax statements, local scholarship certificates, and an explanatory letter.
Where applicable: a social/NGO report, evidence of displacement/refugee status.
Note: SEIUM may request additional verification. Decisions are handled with sensitivity and confidentiality.
For whom. Employees or candidates supported by companies, sector clusters, or public administrations (OEM/Tier-1, energy, rail, maritime, aerospace, defence in an academic framework, smart cities, etc.).
Formats:
Co-funding (company + SEIUM): tiered tuition discounts according to the partnership agreement.
Chairs and named awards (e.g., “SEIUM–SEN Power Systems Fellow”).
Regional programmes (municipalities, regional governments, multilateral organisations).
Advantages:
Priority placement in capstone projects with the sponsoring organisation.
Executive mentoring and access to real-world projects.
Typical requirements:
Sponsorship letter and a tripartite agreement (company–SEIUM–student) defining retention conditions, intellectual property, and confidentiality.
For whom. Underrepresented talent in STEM and mobility (women in advanced engineering, racialised communities, LGBTQ+ people, persons with disabilities, first-generation university students, refugees/displaced persons, rural or island communities, etc.).
Criteria:
Verifiable diversity status (legal document or a declaration endorsed by an institution).
Merit and motivation (SOP; alignment with SEIUM values).
Support plan and reasonable adjustments (where applicable).
Indicative coverage. 15–50% of tuition (depending on the specific fund and region), compatible with financial need support.
Principles of the financial aid programme

Equity and transparency. Published criteria, objective rubrics, and committees with diverse profiles.

Data protection. We process financial and personal information in accordance with the GDPR (see “Data Protection & Privacy”).

Responsible compatibility. Scholarships may be combined up to a maximum coverage limit defined each academic year (indicatively between 40–60% of total tuition; tech fees/lab fees may have specific limits).

Impact. We prioritise applications with demonstrated potential for technical, social, or environmental impact.

Compliance. Continued support requires strong academic performance, integrity, and ongoing progress.

Recommendation: Apply in the Priority Round (R1) to maximise eligibility and access to available funds (see “Calendar & Calls for Applications”).
Additional support (subject to availability)
- Assistantships (teaching/research): partial tuition reduction in exchange for hours in laboratories, assisted teaching, or data support (subject to eligibility and visa regulations).
- Mobility microgrants (travel for wind tunnel testing, field campaigns, conferences).
- Emergency fund (short-term family or health contingencies; not a replacement for structural scholarships).
- Alumni/Family discounts (small percentages for second enrolments or immediate family members).
This professionalises the university–industry relationship and builds confidence for HR teams.
Rounds, deadlines, and compatibility
- R1 – Priority Scholarship: larger funding allocation and higher success rate.
- Regular / R2: competitive; funding is still available.
- Rolling: while places and budget remain available.
Compatibility: SEIUM scholarships can be combined with public funding (national, regional, EU) and company programmes; the total coverage limit set for each academic year applies.
How to apply (step by step)
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Yes. In fact, many awards combine merit + financial need, or diversity + merit.
It depends on the fund. Many scholarships apply to tuition; some include a portion of tech fees.
It can be combined, provided the total coverage limit and the external funder’s rules are respected.
Yes. You may submit a reasoned appeal within 10 days of the decision, providing new evidence or correcting formal errors. An independent committee will issue a decision within 15 business days.
Yes, provided it is permitted by the visa regime and applicable labour regulations.
Common mistakes (and how to avoid them)
- Generic SOP with no evidence or references to standards. → Ground it in outcomes (KPIs, standards, test results).
- Portfolio with no traceability (no data, no versioning). → Add appendices and metadata.
- Incomplete financial documentation. → Use the checklist and submit translated documents if required.
- Applying late in R2 with a complex visa process. → Apply in R1 and request a visa pre-assessment.

Model cases (for guidance)
- Competitive motorsport talent with verifiable results (telemetry, wind tunnel, 7-post) plus a strong SOP → 25–35% merit award, with possible diversity support where applicable.
- First-generation profile with strong technical capability but low income → 25–40% need-based support + 10–20% merit award.
- Working professional sponsored by an OEM (partners) → Partner/Company award according to the agreement, with an optional merit component.
- Female candidate for power electronics/energy programmes with a strong academic record → 20–35% diversity support + 10–20% merit award.
Example: a student in Peru may apply for an education loan through COFIDE; in Spain, an ICO postgraduate loan; in Mexico, FIDERH programmes. All require proof of admission and cost documentation, and we provide those documents within 5 business days.
Maintenance and renewal conditions
- Academic performance: maintain a minimum average (GPA/SEIUM grade) as defined for each programme.
- Progress: complete at least 75% of credits per period and meet milestones (safety tests, compliance, projects).
- Integrity: zero serious incidents (plagiarism, fraud, safety breaches).
- Participation: mentoring, clubs, or outreach activities (when specified).
- Material changes (financial situation, employment, sponsorship): mandatory disclosure.
- Review: the scholarship may be adjusted if objective conditions change or if commitments are not met.
