Course in Off-Road Tyre Noise Reduction
Online 300-hour course in off-road tyre noise reduction. 6 modules covering UNECE Regulation No. 117 (rolling noise, wet grip and rolling resistance), Regulation (EU) 2020/740 (tyre labelling) and Simcenter Testlab. Assigned tutor and open enrolment.
Take the controls.
Run a real engineering trade-off from this field. Move the sliders, watch the model react in real time and beat the challenge.
What you will be able to do
Explain the mechanisms that generate tyre rolling noise.
Measure tyre noise using standardised track and drum methods.
Analyse the influence of tread pattern, carcass and compounds on noise.
Propose vehicle-level solutions to reduce perceived noise.
Evaluate the effect of pressure, load and wear on sound emission.
Interpret the noise limits and labelling required by regulation.
Develop a noise reduction proposal for an off-road tyre.

How you'll learn
100 % online training on the SEIUM campus, with downloadable material, recorded classes and an assigned technical tutor. No fixed timetable: students progress at their own pace within the intake, which makes it possible to combine study with work.
Each module combines theory, guided reading of the original standard and applied exercises. The working software is Simcenter Testlab, Actran, Abaqus, MATLAB, in free, academic or evaluation versions. Tests are studied using real vehicle pass-by track procedures, drum measurement in a semi-anechoic chamber, and comparison of tread patterns. Assessment is continuous per module plus the final integrative project.
Build it end to end
Your final project follows the real engineering workflow, step by step, reviewed by your tutor.

Measure tyre noise using standardised track and drum methods.
Analyse the influence of tread pattern, carcass and compounds on noise.
Propose vehicle-level solutions to reduce perceived noise.
Evaluate the effect of pressure, load and wear on sound emission.

Frequently asked questions
The programme comprises 300 hours in total, spread over 3 to 5 months. That is between 10 and 15 hours per week on average, compatible with full-time work.
The course uses Simcenter Testlab, Actran, Abaqus and MATLAB. Free, academic or evaluation versions are used, and the tutor will indicate a free alternative where one exists.
A SEIUM own diploma upon passing the continuous assessment and the final integrative project. It is in-house training, not an official qualification from the Ministry.
Yes. Modules passed in a course or Postgraduate Diploma in the same area are credited towards the advanced programme. Check the credit transfer policy when you enrol.
